Prenatal Massage in Mombasa: A Safe, Soothing Guide for Expectant Mothers
Pregnancy is beautiful — and hard on your back, legs and mind. Here is how a proper prenatal massage helps, what to expect at RSSM, and what to check before booking anywhere.

Being pregnant on the coast is beautiful. It is also hot, heavy, and hard on the lower back. A well-done prenatal massage can make one of the toughest chapters of pregnancy — the last trimester — a whole lot kinder.
At RSSM we offer prenatal massage as one of our most requested services. Here is what makes it safe, and what it can do for you.
What Makes A Massage "Prenatal"
A prenatal massage is not just a regular massage on a pregnant woman. It is a specifically adjusted treatment where:
- Your positioning is side-lying (not on your belly), supported by pillows.
- Deep pressure is avoided on certain areas of the lower back, ankles and inner legs.
- Strokes are gentle, rhythmic and drainage-focused, not deep tissue.
- Only mother-safe oils are used — no essential oils that are not confirmed safe in pregnancy.
- Your comfort is checked every few minutes.
The Benefits Mums Feel
- Real relief from lower-back pain and sciatica.
- Reduced swelling in feet and ankles.
- Better sleep.
- Lower anxiety — pregnancy hormones are no joke.
- Improved circulation, which helps both you and baby.
When Is It Safe To Start?
Most therapists (RSSM included) prefer to begin prenatal massage after the first trimester — usually from week 13 onward — unless your doctor specifically clears earlier sessions.
Always tell us:
- How many weeks along you are.
- Whether it is a high-risk pregnancy.
- Any spotting, high blood pressure, or medical concerns.
If we ever have a doubt, we will ask for a note from your gynaecologist. Your safety comes first.
What A Session at RSSM Looks Like
- A short intake — we ask about your pregnancy, aches and preferences.
- You settle onto a soft massage bed with pillows arranged to support your bump and hips.
- 60–90 minutes of gentle, targeted work on shoulders, lower back, legs and feet.
- Warm water and a quiet rest before you head home.
Many of our mums add a gentle facial or foot ritual for the full treat.
