How to Choose the Best Spa in Mombasa (Without Wasting Money)
Not every spa in Mombasa is worth your time or your shillings. Use this checklist before you book.

Searching "best spa in Mombasa" pulls up dozens of results and very little honesty. Here's the checklist we would use ourselves — even if we didn't own one.
1. Hygiene you can actually see
Walk in and look around. Fresh linen on every bed, sealed disposable slippers, sterilised tools, a clean bathroom. If reception is dusty, the treatment room will be worse.
2. Therapists who ask questions before they touch you
A trained therapist asks about pregnancy, injuries, allergies and pressure preference before you lie down. If nobody asks, walk out.
3. Real products, not decanted mystery bottles
Ask what's being used on your skin. A good spa in Mombasa will happily show you the bottle. Beware of unlabelled containers.
4. Private, quiet rooms
Coastal humidity makes noise carry. Your massage room should have a door that closes, dim lighting and no music from the salon next door bleeding in.
5. Clear pricing, no surprise upsells
Prices should be printed or on a menu, not whispered. At RSSM our full price list is public so nothing changes at the till.
6. A signature treatment, not just a copy-paste menu
The best spas have something they own. Ours is Swahili Singo — a traditional coastal ritual you won't find at a hotel chain.
7. Reviews that mention people by name
Generic 5-star reviews are cheap to buy. Look for reviews naming the therapist, the treatment and the branch. That's the sign of a real client.
8. Two branches, two experiences
RSSM keeps things separate: Tudor for ladies, Majengo for gents. That means privacy, tailored playlists, and therapists trained for that audience.
Red flags to avoid
- Prices "depend on you"
- No visible product labels
- Massage bed in a shared room
- Therapist checks phone during your session
- Pressure to buy "packages" you didn't ask about
